The Rochester Oratorio Society has approximately 155 volunteer members. The chorus rehearses Monday evenings from 7:30-10:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Ave., Rochester. Some additional rehearsals are required. Singers pay annual dues and must buy their own music. Singers are required to provide their own concert wardrobe (designated black formal attire for women and tuxedoes for men).

The Rochester Oratorio Society will hold early auditions for new members for the 2010-2011 season. Singers in all voice parts are welcome. Highlights of the upcoming season include performances of Handel's Messiah with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra at the newly renovated Eastman Theatre.

Vocalists (all voice parts) interested in joining the ROS are encouraged to contact the ROS Office at 585-473-2234 or rossings@atnmail.com to set up an audition with Music Director Eric Townell. Be sure to include your full name, voice part, and day and evening telephone numbers.

Auditions are 10-12 minutes long, with the Music Director and his accompanist. Singers are asked to bring a prepared classical song or aria, preferably in a foreign language other than Latin, as well as a prepared selection sent to them at the time they schedule their audition. Singers may also be asked to sight-sing and vocalize with piano accompaniment or repeat spoken phrases. Prior choral music singing experience is preferred.
